Like many of you out there, I first heard about Cloverfield Paradox while we were watching the super bowl. Netflix really hit it out of the park with their advertising there. I was watching the trailer wondering how long until I can buy this on Amazon. I tend to shy away from horror movies in the theaters because so many of them are just terrible. Then the little N came up, and I was ecstatic. Cloverfield Paradox would probably be out in a couple of months. Then we were in for another surprise; the movie was coming out as soon as the super bowl ended. Just kidding it’s out after the game. We didn’t end up watching it until Tuesday, but we wanted to see it sooner.

People seem to have varying opinions about the film, but I enjoyed it. If this was a standalone film, I think it would have held its own, but during the entire movie, I kept thinking where does this fit into the Cloverfield timeline. When the film ended, I still wasn’t sure. Do the stories intersect at all, is each title a glimpse into a different universe. Who called and asked to use the bunker? Was it the same bunker in 10 Cloverfield Lane because even though the main characters are British she’s asked to join the crew by an American, and I almost got the feeling that’s where they were. I’m going to have to go back and watch all the films now so I can start making some logic jumps for myself instead of reading everyone else’s opinion.

So what’s the brass tax, is the movie worth watching? I really enjoyed the film, and I’m going to watch it again. The acting was solid, and the story was good. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t trying to puzzle out how it all fits together I would have enjoyed it even more. Paradox builds slowly and then keeps moving at a good pace until the very end. If you go into the movie with an open mind, I think you will really enjoy it.
